 AutoPrice Canada buys over 95% of our vehicles at auctions.  As a result, we are protected from any liens registered against our vehicles.  Again, the majority of the vehicles come from a Manufacturers Lease Returns.  This means that the manufacturer has already cleared the title/ownership for the vehicle because it is returned by the lessee to the lessor (GMAC, Toyota Credit etc.).  It is against the auctions policy to sell any vehicle with a lien against it.  Not to mention against the law!  As a result, the auction guarantees buyers that all liens are cleared for the buyer.  In the end, if a vehicle is purchased at an accredited dealer’s auction, the policy protects the retail buyer.

For any other situations (our trade-ins for example), we guarantee the liens are cleared nationally by requesting a “Lien Search” from the Used Car Dealers Association (UCDA) which performs the search through the Ministries.  If you buy privately and liens are applied against the vehicle you purchase, you may be forced to go through a long and expensive legal battle.
