The AutoPrice Canada Story!


 

AutoPrice Canada identified a unique opportunity in the auto industry as members of our team sifted through customer surveys, research papers and focus group summaries. The opportunity is well summarized in the following quote:

“If a used car company could just combine low prices along with documentation that would enable me to trust the history of a vehicle, I would be interested in doing business with them!”   Anne-Marie – Toronto, Canada

The results of this research screamed one constant theme from a customer’s perspective:

 Most people don’t consider buying a new or used vehicle as a pleasant or rewarding experience. In fact, it lists as one of the least enjoyable and most stressful experiences a consumer faces. 

As a response to this information, we decided to take an in-depth look at the new and used vehicle marketplace. After a lengthy review, the AutoPrice team found that dealerships fell into two segments:

1)  In the first segment, a dealership would offer "Price Point Vehicles".  These were vehicles offered at low prices because the vehicles themselves have been compromised. (Accident involvement resulting in structural damage or frame damage, mechanically unsound, flooded, branded etc…)
2)  In the second segment, a dealership would offer vehicles with higher prices, resulting in higher profit margins for that dealership.   These dealerships were successful at having instilled a certain level of confidence through advertising or through the branding achieved as a used car operation of a franchised new car store. 
As a result of this research, we asked ourselves two questions:

 

1) What does a consumer want when buying a used car and how do we give it to them?

2) What options are currently available in the marketplace to satisfy consumers’ requirements?
