Other people will consider walking or cycling to work. This of course means that they get to save themselves money and they reduce their carbon footprint. This should be encouraged of course and it means that you are doing your bit for the planet. However on the other hand walking or cycling is not always a viable option as it will mean that you may be in danger of getting very wet. It also means sometimes walking through dark neighborhoods that might not be the safest in the middle of the night, and it means hauling large amounts of luggage with you which can be very difficult. Just bought yourself a new desk? How are you going to get that home unless you have a car?

Getting a used car doesn't mean that you can't walk and that you can't improve your carbon footprint. It just means that you will be able to drive when you need to and thereby be safer and dryer and able to carry large objects.
